What the Standby Generator Battery 24V 70Ah does
Larger diesel engines often crank on 24 V, usually from two 12 V batteries wired in series. The batteries must be matched — a weak one drags the other down and causes slow or failed starts.
As with all standby batteries, Kenyan heat and long idle periods are the main enemies, so charging and terminal condition matter as much as the batteries themselves.
Signs it needs replacing
- Slow cranking, especially after the set has stood.
- Low battery voltage or charge-failure alarms.
- One battery reading lower than the other.
- Corroded terminals or swollen cases.
Get the right part first time
Send us these on WhatsApp and our engineers will confirm the exact part before you pay:
- The voltage on your starter motor label (12 V or 24 V).
- Photo of the batteries and their labels.
- A photo of the generator nameplate (make, model, kVA, serial number).
Fitting notes
Replace both batteries in a series pair together. Wire positive of one to negative of the other, check polarity before connecting to the set, and confirm the charger is set to 24 V.
Frequently asked questions
Can I replace just one battery in a 24 V pair?+
It is better to replace both. Mismatched batteries charge unevenly and the old one fails the new one early.
Which engines use 24 V?+
Many larger generator engines, including bigger Caterpillar and Cummins models. Check the starter motor label.
Does the charger need changing?+
Only if it cannot charge at 24 V or is faulty. Our charger switches between 12 V and 24 V.
