What the Generic DSX-M16 AVR (Universal) does
Many small generators — especially Chinese-made and unbranded sets — use AVRs with no clear model number, or models that are no longer available. A universal AVR is a practical way to get these sets working again at a sensible cost.
A universal regulator only works well if its sensing voltage, supply and field output suit your alternator. We match it to the wiring and field resistance of your machine before supplying, rather than guessing from the kVA rating.
Signs it needs replacing
- No voltage or low voltage at normal engine speed.
- Voltage swinging up and down, flickering lights.
- The original AVR is burnt, cracked or unreadable.
Get the right part first time
Send us these on WhatsApp and our engineers will confirm the exact part before you pay:
- A clear photo of your current AVR showing its terminals and wiring.
- Single-phase or three-phase output, and the rated voltage.
- A photo of the generator nameplate (make, model, kVA, serial number).
Fitting notes
Label every wire before removing the old regulator. After fitting, set voltage and stability at rated engine speed and check the output on load. If the original AVR burnt out, test the rotating diodes and exciter winding first — a hidden fault will destroy the replacement too.
Frequently asked questions
Is a universal AVR as good as the original?+
For small, simple sets it is usually a reliable fix. For larger or critical generators we recommend the original-type regulator for the alternator.
What do I need to send you?+
Photos of the old AVR (both sides, with the wiring), the generator nameplate, and whether the set is single or three-phase.
Can you fit it for me?+
Yes — we fit and set it up on site and load-test the generator before we leave.
