What the Perkins 1006 Engine Oil Filter does
The oil filter removes the wear metal, soot and dirt the oil collects as it lubricates the bearings, camshaft and turbo. Perkins 2654403 is the spin-on full-flow filter used across many 1000-series engines — and the most common oil filter on the Perkins-powered sets we maintain.
A standby generator may run few hours, but its oil still ages, picks up condensation and acidifies. That is why we change oil and filter at least once a year even on lightly used sets, or at the engine's hour interval if sooner.
Signs it needs replacing
- The filter is due: service hours reached, or a year since the last change.
- Low oil pressure warning, or oil pressure lower than usual.
- Oil that is black, thick or smells of diesel at the dipstick.
- Oil leaking around the filter seal.
Get the right part first time
Send us these on WhatsApp and our engineers will confirm the exact part before you pay:
- A photo of the engine dataplate — the engine serial number decides the exact part.
- Or the part number printed on your current filter.
Fitting notes
Fill the new filter with clean oil where the mounting allows, lightly oil the sealing ring, and tighten by hand as specified on the filter — over-tightening damages the seal. Refill to the correct mark with the right grade, run the engine, check for leaks, then recheck the level.
From our service records: Perkins 2654403 is the oil filter we fit at each service on 40 kVA FG Wilson sets and 60 kVA Perkins sets under our maintenance.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I change the oil filter?+
With every oil change — at the engine's service-hour interval or at least once a year on standby sets, whichever comes first.
Is 2654403 the right filter for my engine?+
It fits many Perkins 1000-series engines, but the engine serial number decides. Send us a photo of the engine plate and we will confirm.
Can you service the generator as well?+
Yes. Our engineers carry out full services with oil, filters and checks, with a written service report — or on a maintenance contract.
