What the Cummins PowerStart Controller (PS0500 / PS0600) does
PowerStart controllers (PS0500 and PS0600) start, stop, monitor and protect many Cummins generator sets. They read engine and alternator sensors and shut the set down on faults, showing fault codes on the display.
When a controller fails, the generator may refuse to start, shut down without cause or show false alarms. Many apparent controller faults are actually wiring, sensor or supply problems, so we diagnose before replacing.
Signs it needs replacing
- Blank or frozen display.
- The set will not start or stop from the controller.
- Fault codes that do not match the engine's actual condition.
- Water or burn damage to the controller.
Get the right part first time
Send us these on WhatsApp and our engineers will confirm the exact part before you pay:
- The controller model and the generator set serial number.
- A photo of the generator nameplate (make, model, kVA, serial number).
Fitting notes
A replacement controller must be configured for the set — engine, alternator, sensors and protections — before it is put into service. We fit, configure and test it, including the shutdown protections.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Deep Sea controller replace a PowerStart?+
Often yes, with rewiring and configuration. The genuine controller keeps the set as Cummins designed it; we can advise on both.
Is it always the controller?+
No. Faulty sensors, wiring and low supply voltage cause many "controller" faults — we test those first.
How long does supply take?+
This is an order-in item; lead time is confirmed when you enquire.
